The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), Southwestern Chapter hosted an educational member/student dinner meeting at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Thursday, November 15, 2012. The two hour continuing professional educational credits consisted of two speakers that presented timely and relevant information to the audience.

Dr. Sharon Smith, President of Pitt Greensburg, spoke on Ethics and the Accounting Profession. She introduced The Ethical Compass, a tool kit for integrity in business. This ethical model was designed in collaboration with KPMG and Fordham’s Business School while she was Dean of that business school.

Mr. Jeffrey Deane, CPA along with Mr. Stephen Heilman, CPA of Malin, Bergquist & Company, co-presented an update on the current International Financial Reporting Standards; along with a comparison of these standards with the existing US Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures.

Attendees at this event included professional accountants from Southwestern Pennsylvania, as well as college students from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. A dinner followed the program.
