Federal Work-Study (FWS) provides part-time, on-campus jobs for students with financial need. The money earned is not directly applied to the University bill; instead, the student will receive a paycheck at the end of each month worked.
To determine eligibility:
- The student must file a FAFSA. If selected for verification, the Verification Form with appropriate income tax documentation must be submitted. Returning students must also complete this procedure each year.
- The Office of Financial Aid will then determine eligibility for Federal Work-Study.
- Students must be full-time students at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
- Returning work-study students must show academic progress.
- New work-study students must submit an online job application.
If the student is eligible:
- The financial aid award letter will reflect a FWS dollar amount.
- The award shown is the maximum amount that a student can earn during the academic year.
- If your award letter does not list FWS funds, call the Office of Financial Aid at 724-836-9881 to request a review of your application.
General Work-Study Information
- The Federal Work-Study award does NOT guarantee a position. Students must apply online and be successfully hired for an open position.
- When a student submits an online job application for a work-study position, the Office of Financial Aid will verify that the student is eligible for a Federal Work-Study Award.
- Applications of eligible students will then be forwarded to the Pitt-Greensburg Supervisor of the position for which the student applied.
- The Supervisor will contact the applicant to arrange an interview by phone or in person.
- After the supervisor makes a decision, he/she will contact the applicant to advise the student of the hiring decision.
After Being Hired
- Newly hired students must complete the on-line mandatory work-study orientation.
- Newly hired work-study students will complete all required employment forms and present acceptable identification as described on page 6 of the (Work-Study Manual for Students & Supervisors) in the Office of Financial Aid on the first day of employment.
- No student is permitted to work until all employment paperwork is received in the Office of Financial Aid.
