Bobcats fall to La Roche 59-47
GREENSBURG, PA- Four La Roche Redhawks scored in double figures as the AMCC first place team wore down Pitt-Greensburg 59-47 Wednesday evening in Chambers Hall. The Bobcats fall to 3-9 in the AMCC while La Roche remains a perfect 10-0 in conference play.
The Bobcats did a terrific job on the defensive end of the floor in the first period, limiting La Roche to just eight field goals. UPG held the Redhawks to just 2-10 from behind the arc, well below their average so far this season.
Pitt-Greensburg struggled offensively in the first half as well as the two teams combine for 45 first half points. UPG netted just five first half field goals and went 0-3 from three point range, trailing 24-21 at the intermission.
La Roche used two big runs in the second half to pull away from the Bobcats. The Redhawks opened the second 20 minutes on a 9-1 run capped by a Barber-Richards 3-pointer. With 9:48 remaining in the game Larry Bigante (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) nailed a 3-pointer that cut the deficit to eight, 41-33.
The Redhawks then surged on a 21-5 run that covered five minutes and ended with La Roche on top 59-38. Damian Founds (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) ended the run with a lay-up at the 3:09 mark.
Pitt-Greensburg closed out the game on a 9-0 run but it wasn’t enough as the Bobcats came up short 59-47 on the scoreboard.
Bigante led all Bobcat scorers with 10 points on the night, while David Patcher (Pittsburgh, PA/Seton La-Salle) added seven points and six rebounds.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action when they travel to Hilbert College on Saturday afternoon for a 5:00 PM tip.
