Five Bobcats earn AMCC Softball All-Conference Honors

GREENSBURG, PA- Five members of the Pitt-Greensburg softball team were named to the 2012 AMCC All-Conference team released from the AMCC office Tuesday afternoon.  Devan Zelonish (Hubbard, OH/Hubbard) earned first team honors while teammates Nicolette McHugh (Bulger, PA/Fort Cherry), Nicole Sich (Irwin, PA/Norwin) and Kelly Daniels (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) were named to the second team.  Senior Danielle Straub (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) was placed on the third team.

Zelonish, a freshman first team selection, hit .355 (33-93) used mostly as Pitt-Greensburg’s designated player.  She finished the season with 11 extra base hits, seven doubles, one triple and five home runs.  She drove in 18 runs, scored 16 and posted a .613 slugging percentage.  Zelonish started 33 of the team’s 35 games and drove in eight runs including two home runs in the Bobcats first home double header of the season.

Second team honoree Nicolette McHugh led the team with a .447 (51-114) batting average.  McHugh another freshman finished the 2012 season ranked in the top 10 in the AMCC in seven offensive statistical categories.  She finished third in slugging percentage (.789), fourth in home runs (8) and total bases (90), fifth in batting average (.447), hits (51) and RBI (44), and ninth in on base percentage (.450).  McHugh also ranked in the top 10 in the nation in RBI per game and finished the year ranked 11th with 1.29 RBI per contest.  She broke the Pitt-Greensburg single season record for hits, RBI and total bases.

Sophomore, second baseman Kelly Daniels earned a spot on the second team after a third team selection a year ago as a freshman.  Daniels broke the AMCC single season record for stolen bases in a season with 25 and after just two seasons is the Pitt-Greensburg career leader in stolen bases with 47.  This season Daniels hit .382 (42-110) including .556 in the Bobcats three playoff games.  She scored a Pitt-Greensburg single season record 42 runs and added 13 doubles and 3 home runs.  She posted a .968 fielding percentage and committed just three errors for the entire season.

Freshman, Nicole Sich also a second team selection broke the Pitt-Greensburg single season home run record, hitting nine long balls this season.  She hit .344 (31-90) in her first season at Pitt-Greensburg and earned another single season record with 17 walks.  She finished second on the team in runs (31), RBI (28) and total bases (64).  She posted a .711 slugging percentage and was successful in 6-9 of her stolen base attempts hitting out of the four hole.

Senior, Danielle Straub a first team all-conference selection in 2011 was placed on the 2012 third team.  Just one of two seniors on the team Straub a great defensive shortstop hit .327 (34-104) starting all 35 games.  She added a team high 13 doubles, a triple and a home run while driving in 19 runs.  She earned a .932 fielding percentage and recorded a team high 79 assists.
