Pitt-Greensburg's upset bid falls short at La Roche
Pittsburgh, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg
men’s basketball team dropped a 74-65 decision at La Roche College Wednesday evening.
Pitt-Greensburg shot exactly 50% (24-48) from the floor but the Bobcats committed 21 turnovers that led to 32 La Roche points that proved to be the difference in the contest.
After trailing 31-29 heading into the intermission, UPG went on a 16-3 run early in the second half to take a nine point lead, 49-40 with 12:48 left on the clock. David Palmer (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) scored eight of his 18 points of the stretch. He also added 13 boards for his sixth double-double in as many games.
La Roche, who has been tough to beat at home as they answered the Bobcat spurt with a run of their own, outscoring UPG 16-2 over a six minute stretch to take a nine point advantage with just over two minutes to play. Pitt-Greensburg cut the lead to five on an Anthony Papini (Somerset, PA/Somerset) but would not be able to get any closer.
Palmer had a team high 18 points, Brock Witkowski (Marble, PA/Keystone) netted 14 points and Mike Pearson (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) added 13 points off the bench shooting 4-5 from the floor.
La Roche was led by David Jackson who led all scorers with 19 points on 9-11 shooting.
Pitt-Greensburg will host Hilbert College on Saturday, January 28th at 2:00 PM in Chambers Hall.
