Center for Professional Growth to offer career-related courses

The Center for Professional Growth (CPG) at Pitt-Greensburg will offer a series of career-related courses this spring. The classes will be held in Cassell Hall 210.

The CPG offers a discount of $5 per course when participants register for more than one course. The registration deadline is one week prior to the session date.

Dorothy Zilic, director of Career Services at Pitt-Greensburg, and Alison Gloekler, assistant director of Career Services, will lead these classes that will help job seekers, both new and experienced, enhance their skills and their success.

Each career-related program will have two two-hour sessions:

  • Career Exploration provides an opportunity to take on-line assessments and discuss how interests can translate into career options. Zilic will lead these sessions, which will be held Monday, February 19, and Thursday, February 22, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of this program is $45 per person.

  • Resume Writing and Cover Letters will be held Monday, February 26, and Thursday, March 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants are invited to bring their current resumes and cover letters to class electronically (on a USB drive) to obtain suggestions on how to improve them. Opportunities to draft new materials will also be available. These sessions, led by Gloekler, cost $35 per person.

  • Job Search will examine different strategies and resources to consider based on the participants’ field of expertise. Gloeker will guide participants through researching companies and focusing on more industry-focused online resources, as well as looking at how to develop one’s LinkedIn profile. A mix of general practices and industry-specific practices will be reviewed. This program will be held Monday, March 5, and Thursday, March 8, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person.

  • In Interviewing Skills, Gloekler, will focus on the dos and don’ts of interviewing, including appropriate dress, tips for success, and different interview formats (i.e. phone, group, and panel). Practicing will be part of the two sessions to be held Monday, March 12, and Thursday, March 15, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person.

  • Networking Skills will teach participants how to make connections. Zilic will introduce participants to the elevator pitch/30-second commercial, advertising one’s strengths and personal interests, and provide hands-on experience in a mock-networking situation. The sessions will be held Monday, March 19, and Thursday, March 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $35 per person.
