Mission Statement
University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, in conjunction with UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), provides comprehensive care for all of its student athletes. This coverage includes having a Certified Athletic Trainer present at all practices and home events. In addition to the full-time coverage, the partnership with UPMC not only allows Pitt-Greensburg student athletes direct access to the finest in Sports Medicine physicians and Orthopedic surgeons, but also to physical therapy, sports nutritionists, sports performance training, neuropsychologists for concussion care, and access to all other specialists within the hospital system. The UPMC Health System Sports Medicine program is the area's leader in the prevention, care, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
The team physician(s) is responsible for the delivery of medical care to all Pitt-Greensburg athletes, including coordination of pre-season physical examinations and subsequent authorization for participation, injury / illness evaluation, referral to medical specialists, and prescription of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation exercise for return to competition.
**In all instances, the team physician determines the criteria and makes the final decision relative to the injured / ill athlete's return to competition. **
Athletic Training Staff
Missy Cremeens, MA, ATC, CSCS
Missy enters her second year at UPMC and Pitt-Greensburg. Her primary sports covered include: Women’s soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis (m/w), men’s basketball and softball. Her bachelor’s degree is from University of Pittsburgh 2003, and her master’s is from University of Arizona 2005. Prior to UPMC, worked at nearby St. Vincent College for a year and a half, and Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ from 2005-2008. She is certified by the NATA Board of Certification, and by the PA Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. She is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and an AHA Basic Life Support Instructor. Continuously involved in the athletic training profession, she was the Meetings and Events Coordinator for the Arizona Athletic Trainer’s Association, and currently serves as the PATS Westmoreland County Delegate. Missy resides in Greensburg, and will be getting married this coming June.
Ricky Wheeler II, ATC
2011 marks Ricky’s his second year at UPMC and first year at Pitt-Greensburg. His primary sports covered include: Men’s soccer, cross country, Women’s basketball, Baseball and bowling. His bachelor’s degree is from Oklahoma State University. Prior to UPMC, he worked at St. Vincent College for two years. He is certified by the NATA Board of Certification, and by the PA Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. Ricky is originally from Muskogee, Oklahoma, and now resides in Latrobe.
