Pitt-Greensburg to host an American Red Cross blood drive

Be A Hero...Save 3 Lives! Just 1 pint may save up to 3 lives! The University of Pittsburg at Greensburg will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, September 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Smith Hall Lounge (University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 150 Finoli Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601).

“Because of the recent hurricanes, The American Red Cross has a significant blood shortage and is in dire need of blood donors,” said Pamela Reed Freger, director of the Health Center at Pitt-Greensburg. “It is imperative that blood and platelets continue to be distributed so that those in need will receive this lifesaving treatment.”

Appointments may be scheduled online at redcrossblood.org (enter UPG in the search box) or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Appointments may also be scheduled using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

New to the process is the American Red Cross’s RapidPass that allows donors to complete their pre-reading and donation questions online from the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, reducing the time needed at blood drives by as much as 15 minutes. Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass to answer the questions and print your pass. Please note that RapidPass cannot be completed on the same day of the blood drive and cannot be completed using mobile devices. Donors must print their pass or email the PDF to themselves to show on their mobile device when they come to donate.

“Every donation of blood helps to save three lives,” said Freger. “Someone needs blood every two seconds. It only takes one person to make a huge different in someone’s life. We invite members of the Westmoreland County community to participate in this blood drive.”
