Kevin J Slonka, ScD
- Assistant Professor of Information Science
Dr. Slonka has been teaching at the collegiate level since 2007. Prior to teaching at Pitt, he taught at various colleges and universities in Western PA. One of Dr. Slonka's main accomplishments at his previous institution was earning the National Security Agency (NSA)/Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Academic Excellence designation for their IT: Cyber Security program. The IT department is currently preparing to apply for the same designation for Pitt Greensburg's IT program. Dr. Slonka also is the author of Assembly Programming and Computer Architecture for Software Engineers, published by Prospect Press, a textbook with global adoption focused on teaching Intel-based Assembly language to computer science students. Outside of Pitt, Dr. Slonka keeps current with industry trends by consulting with a local technology company as their cyber security expert. It is through this association that he published his 2016 paper, Phishing our clients: A step toward improving training via social engineering, which won the Best Paper award at the International Association of Computer Information Systems conference.
