Marie A. Fioravanti, DNP, RN

  • Associate Professor and Director of Nursing

Dr. Fioravanti earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Pittsburgh specializing in Nursing Administration. She is the 2019 University of Pittsburgh’s Cameo of Caring award recipient for Excellence in nursing education.  Dr. Fioravanti joined the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Nursing Faculty in 2000 and served as the primary teacher for Nursing Management of the Adult with Acute/Complex Health Problems for the undergraduate students.  In 2017, Dr. Fioravanti moved to University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg where she opened the first Bachelor of Science in nursing program in Westmoreland County. Dr. Fioravanti is the faculty advisor to the Pitt-Greensburg Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society. She is also member of the American Nurses Association.  Dr. Fioravanti’s primary interest lies in advanced adult medical/surgical nursing with an emphasis in organ transplantation, gastrointestinal diseases and, most recently, surgical head and neck cancer. Her years of clinical experience has been at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She has taught both graduate and undergraduate students regarding mentoring and culture awareness. She also has extensive knowledge and experience in incorporating High Fidelity Human Simulated technology into the curriculum and has taught the evidence-based practice of screening, brief intervention, referral to treatment (SBIRT) for patients who use or misuse alcohol and/or other drugs using simulation interprofessionally.   She was the recipient of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing Dean’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2010. Her interest in research focuses on professional development, mentoring and incorporating evidence-based nursing at the bedside.  She also serves as legal nurse consultant and expert witness.
