Lou ZadekcyThe University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg is pleased to announce that Lou Zadecky, a Latrobe resident, is the new director of athletics at the Hempfield Township campus. Zadecky’s first day was Sept. 22, and he brings more than 12 years of experience in that role from a mix of public and private institutions.

“We are very excited and fortunate to have Lou join Pitt-Greensburg as our new athletic director,” said Robert Gregerson, PhD, president of Pitt-Greensburg. “Lou comes to us with a wealth of experience as a college AD, including the past few years at Carlow University, which, like Pitt-Greensburg, is a member of the NCAA Division III Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Lou is from Western Pennsylvania and has worked in the region for his entire career.  His deep knowledge of our area will be a great benefit to our coaches and athletes.”

Most recently, Zadecky served as the director of athletics at Carlow University, a position he has held since 2021. There he managed all aspects of the university’s NCAA Division III and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) athletic programs. This included managing the university’s sponsored sports teams, the majority of which compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). While at Carlow University, Zadecky’s program was named the AMCC Institutional Peak Performer Champion (2023-2024), and it received the AMCC Peak Performer Team Award (14 team awards over two years, 2023-2025).

At Pitt-Greensburg, Zadecky will manage 13 sponsored sports teams that compete at the NCAA Division III level and in the AMCC. The Bobcats field teams in men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and tennis, as well as women’s basketball, bowling, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. This past spring, the women’s softball team claimed their first AMCC Championship and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division Regional Tournament. During the past 10 years, two other Pitt-Greensburg teams have competed in the NCAA Division III Tournaments for their sports, including the women’s soccer team (2019 and 2022), and the women’s tennis team (2021, 2022, and 2023).

"There is a history of success in Bobcat athletics and I look forward to being able to build on and continue that legacy,” said Zadecky, the 2024-25 USCAA Garth Pleasant Honorary National Administrator of the Year. “The mission of the Pitt-Greensburg athletic department closely aligns with my own personal mission. I am looking forward to building community relationships and helping to integrate the department into the campus and local community."

In addition to serving as director of athletics at Penn State University Fayette (2014-2021), Zadecky has 25 years of coaching experience at the college, high school, and professional levels. This includes head women’s basketball coach at Penn State University Greater Allegheny (2011-2014), where he was named the PSUAC Coach of the Year (2013-2014) and the Penn State Greater Allegheny Coach of the Year (2012-2013). The team also was ranked in the top twelve nationally ( 2012-2013, 2013-2014) under his direction.

He currently serves on the USCAA Compliance and Eligibility Committee (2023-present), USCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball and Basketball Selection Committee (2021-present).

Zadecky is a graduate of PennWest Edinboro, where he earned a BS in health and physical education, recreation, dance, fitness, and sports coaching. He also holds an MS in sport management and administration from PennWest California.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to come to Pitt-Greensburg as I have called the Greensburg/Westmoreland County area home for over 20 years,” said Zadecky. “This position gives me the opportunity to be close to home and allows my family to be a part of this next chapter in my life. I would also like to thank my wife, Anna, for her support through this move."
