Purpose of the Conference:

The goal of the Mathematics Challenge & Conference (MC²) is to stimulate and promote mathematics excellence for talented high school students. The conference is also intended to be an opportunity for high school students to get an idea of what college students are working on, and to meet and to network with others.

This event features an invited talk aimed at a general undergraduate math audience and a math competition workshop for high school students.

Math Competition:

The Challenge part of this event features a stimulating exam in mathematics with questions ranging from algebra to geometry to trigonometry. No calculators will be allowed, so in addition to a sound knowledge of high school mathematics up to, but not including, calculus, this competition will require a fair amount of mathematical insight and ingenuity.

Participating high schools are invited to register talented students to compete. The three best individual scores from a high school will determine that school’s team score. Prizes will be given to the top individuals and to the schools with the top team scores.

Registration for the Conference:

The Conference this year will be held on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Thursday, March 22, 2018. There is no cost; however, we require registration for all attendees. Registration is open to anyone interested, including students and faculty alike.

The deadline for guaranteed registration is Friday, March 2, 2018. After this date, registration may still be open, but might not be guaranteed. We do ask that each high school have a faculty sponsor.
